Early Mother's Day Gift to Me!

Has anyone seen this commercial?

Well we had a live version at our dinner table a couple of nights ago. Yup! Ben stood on his chair and thanked me for his yummy meal. Unfortunately, I handled it completely wrong. I about fell off my chair laughing. I hurt his feelings. So I had to apologize and thank him for being so sweet. Is this not the funniest kid ever?

What?!

Remember the time when 2 years was a lifetime? All I want to know is how the heck did my little girl turn 2 already?! Yesiree, Magsters is officially two-years old. We had a baby doll shindig with almost the whole family turning out to celebrate. It was a busy, but wonderful day. Here are some pics for your enjoyment! Happy Birthday my sweet little girl! Now will ya slow down already! In her words, "Jeesh Baby"!

"I do it!"

From the time Ben could speak he would utter the words "I do it". This phrase I heard over and over again from simple tasks as climbing off a chair to tremendous tasks for a little boy like climbing a mountain of stairs. A flight of stairs was nothing for me but for an 18 month old it was quite a task. I can't even think of how many times I've thought to myself how much easier it would be for me to do it. It would be done much more efficiently and with more quality.

Today Ben wanted to cut his own orange. The protective mommy in me said no, but he insisted. I decided to let him try with supervision (and with my camera, of course). Now the absolute worst thing that could happen is a cut finger. He would bleed, I would bandage and kiss, AND he would learn a lesson. He did fine, I took some pictures, and off he went to eat his snack.

I thought about this more. This isn't the first time my son has been in mild danger to learn and grow. I have watched him climb and jump off numerous high places. I have seen him run too fast and fall. I have been close by when he touched a somewhat heated stove. Each time, a lesson learned. Is this okay? I know that I will see this come up again and again as I watch him grow.

With that said, being a mom gives me a sense of what our Heavenly Father felt as he sent us to earth. I think I have an idea what he felt in his heart. I don't want my son to ever be hurt. If I could keep him safe forever and he would still be able to learn life's lessons, I would in a heartbeat. That is not how life works, so again I will stand by and watch my kids fall down, get back up, and move on.

Sorry for the serious post. I just figure if I'm going to print this out as a journal I should write some things of the heart. So I guess be ready for some weekly sappiness. :)

No Park Today...

so instead, we bake! Or no bake. Whatever. I felt really guilty because I told Ben I would take him to the park today. Well lo and behold, the evil of winter won't let go. It was snowing. Bennie's Aunt Jamie always bakes with him. It's great, he loves it, but whenever he spends a day with Jamie, I hear everyday for a week..."Mommy, can we bake cookies!" I love to bake, don't get me wrong. It's just when I bake, I eat. Bad, bad, bad. Oh well.

Here is more proof of my love for baking. I had to make a cake for guard. I chose to make cupcakes and I think they turned out rather cute. From what I heard, they were pretty good too.

You've Seen it Once

and you'll see it again.

There's nothing like a kid falling asleep at the table. Sooo stinkin' cute.

Ben thought it was funny and wanted to do it too. Silly kid.

New Book of the Month

We are reading "The Jane Austen Book Club" for April. A few years ago we read "Pride and Prejudice" and I fell in love with Jane Austen. I am super excited for this one. Has anyone read this? I would love to hear what you thought.

Does anyone else feel like a jungle gym while they are blogging? Right now I have 2 kids climbing on me.

Maggie had her pictures done yesterday by my good friend Adrianne. I am so excited to see them! I will post them soon! Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Captured by Adrianne

Earlier I posted about a skirt I had sewn for a friend to use as a prop. Well she posted some pictures on her business blog. It is the black and red one. She has used it twice now. Adrianne is incredibly talented. While we were growing up she was always the one with a camera in her hand. I'm super proud of her. She is able to be a stay at home mom and help with the family income by doing something she loves.

Stay tuned because she is taking Maggie's 2 year pictures this Friday. I'm really excited. If anyone is interested in having a session with her you can contact her through her blog. It is too far for most of my readers I'm sure, but if you're ever headed up to Idaho, she offers a killer deal and would be worth a stop to get some priceless photos.

Go check out the skirt. It was fun to make. I'm working on a raspberry pink one now. Lots of fun!
